Backup of Note Everything
We understand you have very important information in your notes in Note Everything.
So periodical backups are always a good idea and recommended!
Background
Your notes are stored in an internal database of Note Everything. This database is located always in the internal phone memory of your device, which you usually can’t access. There is no cloud sync and nobody else has access to your data. So if you loose your data, it is not possible to restore your data without a backup!
This means, your data will NOT SURVIVE the following things:- a master reset / wipe of the device (often done by shop employees in case of problems with the device)
- uninstallation of the app
- clear data in application management
- technical fault of your device
- other events that damages the memory where the database is stored (for example ungraceful shutdowns like battery pull)
How to backup
There are different ways to backup your data:- the Note Everything Pro Upgrade with automatic scheduled backups
- the 3rd party app MyBackup Pro
- export your text notes to plain text files
Backup with Pro Upgrade
With Pro Upgrade you can create full backups to compressed zip files. It also supports automatic backups at a scheduled time (daily / weekly).
And if you have an active Pro Upgrade subscription, you can also let the backups automatically upload to your Google Drive. So you have a backup offside your device in case it gets damaged.
Setup automatic backups
To setup the automatic backups, go to settings -> Backup & Restore -> Backup settings.
Activate automatic backups and choose the desired interval, time & how many backups should be kept. Older backups are automatically deleted so it won’t flood your storage.

Backup location
Also it is recommended to select a designated backup location.
By default apps are not allowed to write to your storage. The app has only access to it’s own internal memory. But you can’t manually access that memory for example to copy the backups to other devices.
Also this memory will automatically be deleted by Android if the app is uninstalled.
So you should tap on “backup location” and select (maybe create) a folder on your storage. So the backup data will be kept, if you uninstall the app. And you can access this memory to copy the backups.

Google Drive backup
To use automatic upload of your backup files to your Google Drive, you need an active Pro Upgrade subscription.
Enable it and tap on “Google Account” to select the desired Google Account and grant access to it.
You can also set how many (automatic) backups should be kept in Google Drive. Older backups will be deleted automatically. And you can set if the backups are allowed to be uploaded on metered networks. Otherwise the upload will be postponed until you are in an unmetered network.
You can also see the device name. It is a combination of your device model and a generated number. This will be used to prefix the uploaded files, so you can recognize from which device the backups are.

Manual backup
You can always create a manual backup by tapping on “Backup to Zip-File”.
This will create a backup of your current data, prefixed with “manualbackup_” and appeded with the current date & timestamp. The file will be saved to the location you selected in backup settings.

Restore
To restore your data after a master reset, on a new phone or other reasons, click on “Restore from ZIP-Backup”.
You will see a dialog with the available backups. Choose the desired backup file to restore it.
The dialog only searches the backup location set in “Backup settings”, so if the dialog doesn’t find any backups, the path might not be correct or there are no files in that directory. You can also use the “Pick another file” button to manually pick the file you want to restore.
With an active Pro Upgrade subscription, you can also restore a backup from Google Drive. For example if you moved to a new device, you can select & grant access to your Google Account in “Backup settings” and then tap on “Restore from Google Drive”. A dialog will show the available files and if you select one, it will be downloaded and restored.
Please note: A restore will overwrite all your current data in Note Everything! There is currently no possibility to merge a backup with current data or to restore individual notes.
